What brought you to Silent Sounds Communications, and what inspired you to join the company?
Silent Sounds was one of the first companies I applied to when I decided to move to the UK back in 2018. Speaking multiple languages, I was drawn to a company where communication and language sit at the heart of what we do. I joined Silent Sounds as a Booking Coordinator, and over the years I’ve had the opportunity to grow within the company into my current role as Recruitment Manager. I’m grateful to have been part of a business that values developing its people and has given me the chance to build my career while contributing to a service that makes a genuine difference to people’s lives.
What do you find most rewarding, and most challenging about your role?
The most rewarding part of my role is sourcing the right interpreters for the languages and areas where they are needed. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see our network continue to grow and to build strong relationships with interpreters who choose to work with us. We recognise the important role interpreters play, often supporting people during sensitive and important moments in their lives. Being part of the process that connects skilled interpreters with the clients and communities that rely on their services gives my role a real sense of purpose. One of the biggest challenges is recruiting for rare languages or locations where availability is limited, especially when responding to urgent, short-notice requests while still maintaining our high standards. It requires constant persistence, organisation, and a proactive approach to keep growing our network successfully.
How do you see the future of interpreting services?
I believe interpreting services will continue to be an essential part of society as the UK continues to bring together people from many different cultural and language backgrounds. Every day, people who speak little or no English may need to access important services such as healthcare, education or public services, and professional interpreters play a vital role in ensuring communication is clear and accurate. Technology will continue to support and improve interpreting services, making communication more accessible and efficient. However, I believe the human element will always remain essential, particularly when understanding, trust and cultural awareness are needed.
What do you think are the most important issues impacting interpreters today?
I think one of the key challenges facing interpreters today is ensuring that the profession continues to be recognised and valued for the important role it plays. Interpreting requires a high level of skill, accuracy, professionalism and the ability to work in often complex or sensitive situations. Another important issue is balancing the increasing demand for interpreting services with the availability of qualified interpreters, particularly in less common languages or specific locations. It is important that interpreters have access to ongoing support and opportunities while organisations continue to maintain high standards for the services they provide.
If you weren’t working at Silent Sounds as a Recruitment manager, what career path do you think you might have followed?
I’ve always been interested in understanding people and helping them, so I think I may have pursued a career in psychology. Although my career has taken a different path, I still enjoy working with people, building relationships and supporting others, which is something I find very rewarding in my current role.
When you’re not working, what’s your favourite pastime?
My favourite pastime is spending time with my family. I have two boys who certainly keep me busy! I also enjoy being outdoors, which gives me a great opportunity to slow down, appreciate nature and recharge. I like to keep myself motivated with a positive attitude and always find ways to balance my mind and spirit.
