Celebrating World Human Rights Day

“To deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity.” – Nelson Mandela

10th December 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of one of the world’s most groundbreaking global pledges: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The creation of this landmark document served to enshrine the inalienable rights that each person in the world is entitled to, by nature of their very humanity. It clearly defines our rights in society, irrespective of our race, colour, sex, religion, political outlook, social opinions, origins, birth or language.

In 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was set out by the United Nations General Assembly, on 10th December. It firmly established the principles of social inclusion and celebration of diversity which enabled fundamental human rights to be protected at all times, regardless of the individual.

Since its initial publication, this groundbreaking document has been translated into over five hundred languages, and has become the most-translated document in the world.

Celebrating the advent of a universal benchmark for equality, access and inclusion

To mark this critical day for equality and inclusion globally, Human Rights Day is an occasion to highlight the importance of promoting, and protecting, the fundamental rights and dignity which every individual across the world deserves.

As a highly diverse organisation continually advocating for equality in representation of diverse communities, Silent Sounds recognises the pivotal role which we play, in upholding these rights through facilitating effective communication, and giving an equal voice to the marginalised.

Advocating for those whose voices may otherwise go unheard
In a fair and inclusive society, language should never be a barrier to accessing justice, healthcare, education, or any other basic human right. Our mission is to bridge that gap by providing professional interpretation and translation services, ensuring that everyone has equal access to essential services and opportunities.

On Human Rights Day, we reflect upon the progress made in advancing human rights globally, while also acknowledging the challenges that persist. It is a time to celebrate achievements, and to recommit ourselves to the ongoing work needed to address inequalities, discrimination, and injustices that still prevail in our societies.

At Silent Sounds, we strive to promote inclusivity and equal access to information, enabling diverse voices to be heard and understood. We firmly believe that language should never be a barrier to basic rights, and we are committed to breaking down those barriers through our services. If you would like to know more about our services, or see what we are doing each day to advocate for marginalised individuals, please get in touch.
